Official summary of the law (Knesset)

The Law expands the restriction orders that the Rabbinical Court may impose on a person refusing to grant a divorce (get). As part of the amendment, economic restriction orders that the court may order were added. The Law also authorizes the court to impose, in a restriction order, compliance-compelling payments in favor of the person in whose favor the judgment was given, taking into account the economic situation of the person against whom the order was issued. It was further established that the court has authority to declare that the exclusions of Rabbeinu Tam will apply to the person against whom the judgment was given or to a third party causing the refuser to refuse to grant the divorce. Furthermore, the Law makes a distinction, establishing that if language of compulsion, obligation or commandment was used and the court did not rule otherwise, then it is clear that restriction orders may be imposed. However, regarding language of suggestion or other language, the court will determine whether restriction orders may be issued by virtue of the judgment. In addition, it is proposed to change the law regarding women whom the court has ruled must accept the divorce, and to establish, as a temporary provision, that it will be possible to impose a restriction order on such women even without special approval from the President of the Great Rabbinical Court, as was required until this amendment.
