The Compensation of Officeholders in Financial Corporations Law (Special Approval and Non-Recognition of Expense for Tax Purposes due to Exceptional Compensation), 2016 (hereinafter - the Law), was passed in second and third reading on 29 March 2016. The Law sets a salary cap of NIS 2.5 million, and in order to raise the salary of an officeholder above NIS 2.5 million in a corporation, the salary of the corporation's employees must be raised at a ratio of up to 35 times between the highest and lowest salary. In addition, the Income Tax Ordinance was amended so that an excess over the compensation cap will not be recognized as a deductible expense at a rate double the rate of the excess over the cap.
