About the law and the debate

Official summary of the law (Knesset)

Section 51(a)(1) of the Courts Law establishes the offenses under the jurisdiction of the Magistrates' Court and the exceptions thereto. The Courts Law (Amendment No. 82), 2016 expands the exceptions and determines that subject-matter jurisdiction regarding criminal offenses under the Food Law will be vested in the District Court. In addition, Section 6 of the Criminal Procedure Law was amended to authorize the Minister of Justice to determine by order that local jurisdiction will be vested in a District Court to be designated.
