Official summary of the law (Knesset)
The Law for the Amendment of Evidence Law (Protection of Children) establishes a special arrangement for the investigation and testimony of children under the age of 14 in sex offenses and domestic violence offenses. Amendment No. 17 to the said Law regulates the presence of the child investigator during the child's testimony in court. It is also established that cross-examination of the child directly by the defendant is prohibited, and may only be conducted through the defendant's defense counsel. The Amendment establishes similar provisions regarding the continuous hearing of testimony and the prohibition on direct cross-examination by the defendant in the Law for the Amendment of Procedural Rules (Examination of Witnesses) regarding the testimony of minors, even if they have reached the age of 14, in serious offenses. In addition, it is established that the court shall hear the child's testimony continuously, shall limit the duration of the cross-examination, and shall set provisions to adapt it to the child's understanding. It is also anchored as an obligation to allocate a room or place for minors to wait before their testimony in court, adapted to their needs.
