About the law and the debate
Official summary of the law (Knesset)
This Law determines that, under the Law of Rights of Victims of Crime, the right of victims of sexual or violent offenses to express their position regarding parole before the Parole Board will be expanded, and they will be able to choose whether they wish to express it in writing or to appear at the hearing and express it orally. It is further determined that the position of the crime victim will be added to the list of considerations that the Parole Board weighs under the Law of Release on Parole from Imprisonment, with respect to the expected risk to the safety and security of the crime victim resulting from the prisoner's release. In addition, the Law transfers responsibility for conveying information to crime victims from the Israel Prison Service to the Courts Administration, and also applies similar arrangements under the Military Justice Law.
