Official summary of the law (Knesset)
The Regional Councils Law (Amendment No. 10), 2017, was passed by the Knesset on 29 May 2017. The Law provides that the dates of elections for all local authorities will be unified, so that the election date for regional councils will coincide with the election date for municipalities and local councils, namely on 30 October 2018. Accordingly, the arrangements currently in place for elections to municipalities and local councils regarding soldiers' voting and voting in prisons and detention facilities will also apply to elections for regional councils. Finally, it is provided that, similar to the arrangement set for elections to municipalities and local councils, the election day for regional councils will be a day off within the jurisdiction of the regional councils in which elections are held, as well as for employees registered in the voter registry of such regional councils.
