About the law and the debate
Official summary of the law (Knesset)
The National Road Safety Authority Law (temporary provision), 2006, by virtue of which the National Road Safety Authority was established, provides that alongside the Authority a public council of 15 members shall be established, whose role, among other things, is to set the Authority's lines of action. The Law, in its wording prior to this amendment, provided that council members may receive remuneration or reimbursement of expenses for their participation in council meetings. This amendment provides that the chairperson of the council or his permanent deputy shall be entitled to more significant remuneration, reflecting his many duties beyond participation in council meetings, and the considerable time required to perform the role. The conditions for receiving the remuneration and its maximum rate shall be set in regulations to be established by the Minister of Transport and Road Safety with the consent of the Minister of Finance.
