In Amendment No. 11 to the Adoption of Children Law, which was passed by the Knesset on 3 July 2018, it was determined, as a temporary provision for a period of 5 years, that a chief social worker may notify a family relative of a Jew belonging to a family that emigrated from Yemen, the East or the Balkans, who is alleged to have been adopted between the years 1948 and 1954, if there is a record concerning him in the adoption register. It was further determined that the chief social worker has discretion as to whether to provide such information also regarding a person alleged to have been adopted after 1954. If a record is found, the chief social worker shall notify the Attorney General or his representative, who shall apply to the court requesting permission to publish or disclose the details of the record.
