The law was passed in its second and third readings on 5 March 2018, and it amends the Public Housing Law (Purchase Rights), 1998 (hereinafter - the Public Housing Law), which was established as a temporary provision for a period of five years, with an expiration date of 31 December 2017. The amending law extends the temporary provision and determines that the Public Housing Law will remain in force until 31 December 2022. The amendment takes effect on 1 January 2018. In addition, a provision was added to the Public Housing Law stipulating that if criteria are set for neighborhood rehabilitation according to which priority will be given to funding buildings in complexes that have a majority of public housing units, an apartment purchased through the exercise of rights under the law will continue to be regarded as a public housing unit.
