Official summary of the law (Knesset)

The Law provides that military orders shall establish provisions enabling soldiers in compulsory service to request a recommendation from the IDF for shortening or canceling the limitation period or expungement period of a criminal record they have with respect to an offense committed before their enlistment. The recommendation shall be brought before the President of the State close to the end of the service period the soldier is obligated to serve, and it may also be brought after the soldier has been discharged. It is further provided that the IDF shall inform soldiers who have a criminal record of this right, on the day of their enlistment or shortly thereafter, and shall inform persons designated for security service who have a criminal record, even before their enlistment.
