About the law and the debate
Official summary of the law (Knesset)
The Amendment establishes that for purposes of eligibility for maternity allowance, hospitalization grant, and birth grant, "birth" will be considered to occur from the 22nd week of pregnancy, and not only from the 26th week of pregnancy as was previously set before this amendment. The Amendment enables women whose pregnancy ended from the 22nd week of pregnancy onward to be eligible for the aforementioned benefits and also to be eligible for maternity leave under the Women's Employment Law, whether the child is born alive or stillborn.
