This amendment enables candidates for head of a regional council to receive information from the voter registry, similar to the arrangement established in the Local Authorities Law (Elections), 1965, which enables candidates in local authority elections to receive information from the voter registry for purposes of running in elections and maintaining contact with the voting public. Accordingly, the provisions of Sections 16 and 85B of the Law will apply, such that use of information from the registry for purposes other than running in elections for head of a regional council or contact with the voting public will constitute a criminal offense.
