Official summary of the law (Knesset)

The Law establishes that a soldier found temporarily unfit for service may, for a period not exceeding 180 days, continue in regular service unless he requested, on his own initiative, to receive treatment in the civilian health system. It is further established that at the end of this period, or during it, if the army determines that the soldier is unfit for service, the soldier may volunteer in order to complete the period and to continue his medical treatment, in accordance with the existing volunteering arrangement set out in Section 17A of the Security Service Law. The Law also establishes that in the case of a soldier who has returned to fitness, the Israel Defense Forces will be required to act to integrate the soldier into the position in which he served prior to the diagnosis of his illness or injury, all subject to the army's manpower needs and in accordance with his medical condition. The Law shall come into force one year from the date of its publication, in order to allow the army a period of preparation and organization for implementing the Law.
