About the law and the debate

Official summary of the law (Knesset)

This law provides that the amount of the adjustment grant paid to a woman who stayed in a shelter for battered women upon leaving the shelter shall be increased from 8,000 NIS to 11,000 NIS. In addition, upon leaving the shelter, the woman will receive an additional assistance supplement to the grant in the amount of 1,000 NIS for each of her children who is with her, and not only for 2 children as was previously provided in the law before this amendment. The law also provides that the adjustment grant shall be paid to the woman close to the time she leaves the shelter, and as far as possible before she leaves, and in any case no later than 30 days from the date the request for payment of the grant was submitted, unlike the situation prior to this amendment, under which the grant was paid after the woman left the shelter and up to 60 days after the request was submitted.
