The amendment to Section 20 of the Patient's Rights Law, 1996 determines that a medical institution and a caregiver may transfer (subject to the rules already established in that section) medical information necessary for identifying a body or determining the cause of death to the National Center for Forensic Medicine, including to parties whom the physicians of the aforementioned National Center consult with (such as anthropological experts), or to another caregiver authorized by law to identify a body or determine the cause of death (such as a physician at the District Health Office whose role is to determine the cause of death, or dentists working as part of the Israel Police in identifying a body by dental records). The Law clarifies that for this purpose, the transfer of such information shall be regarded as the transfer of information for the purpose of treating a patient.
