About the law and the debate
Official summary of the law (Knesset)
In light of the state of war in which the State of Israel currently finds itself and the significant difficulties arising from holding elections during this period, it was determined that the date of the general elections for local authorities and regional councils will be postponed by three months, to 30 January 2024. In addition, it was determined that if the Government is satisfied that circumstances exist preventing the elections from being held on that date, it may, by order approved by the Knesset, following the recommendation of the Interior and Environment Committee adopted by three-quarters of its members, postpone the election date to 27 February 2024.
