It is proposed to re-establish, as a temporary provision for a period until 31 December 2027, the arrangement that was set out in the temporary provision that expired in February 2023, which stipulated that if a balance remains in the landfill levy account in a given year, this balance may be used to fund, in addition to the additional purposes currently defined in the Law, also assistance to local authorities belonging to clusters 1 through 5 on the socio-economic scale in dealing with waste hazards, in establishing waste treatment infrastructure, and in assisting with the regulation of ongoing waste treatment in those authorities for a period not exceeding three years (instead of a period of one year as stipulated in the previous temporary provisions). It is also proposed, as a permanent amendment to the Law, to set precise dates for submitting the reports to the Knesset required under the Law regarding the Fund's activity, income and expenses.
