The Law seeks to anchor in primary legislation the situation that currently exists in practice, whereby children from the age of 8 may perform an introductory dive, subject to conditions and restrictions to be specified in the Law. The restrictions on introductory diving for children from the age of 8 include limiting the diving depth to 6 meters, requiring close accompaniment by a diving instructor for each diver, a medical and functional fitness examination, a signed parental consent, equipment suited to the child, a dive duration not exceeding 45 minutes, and for children up to the age of 10, a limit of no more than two introductory dives per day, among other requirements. The Law also provides that the Minister of Culture and Sport may set different conditions for introductory diving in a type of swimming pool that he determines, which differ from the conditions specified above, provided that the safety of divers is not compromised and that an age lower than 8 may not be set for introductory diving in a swimming pool.
