The Local Authorities (Elections) Law (Amendment No. 46), 2017 was adopted on 20 February 2017. The Law provides that a prisoner held in custody in a prison, or a detainee held in a place of detention on election day, shall be entitled to vote in the general elections to local authorities at a prisoners' polling station determined by the Minister of Interior, at the prison or place of detention where he is held, or at the prisoners' polling station nearest to that place. The Law also provides that prison guards and police officers present at the prison or place of detention on election day shall also be permitted to vote at such prisoners' polling stations, and that the Minister of Interior shall establish provisions regarding voting hours, the manner of sorting envelopes, and the like.
