Basic Law: The Knesset (Amendment No. 44) authorizes the Knesset, by a majority of 90 of its members, to remove a Knesset member who has acted contrary to the principles set out in Section 7A(a)(2) or (3) of the Basic Law. The process for removing a Knesset member may be initiated only following a request by 70 Knesset members, of whom at least 10 are opposition Knesset members, and after a proposal by the Knesset Committee approved by a majority of three-quarters of its members. It is further provided that the termination of the Knesset member's membership shall take effect 14 days from the date of the Knesset's decision, and that the Knesset member may appeal such a decision of the Knesset to the Supreme Court. In addition, the Law provides that this section shall not apply during the period of Knesset elections, as shall be determined by law.
