Official summary of the law (Knesset)

Starting from 1 January 2019 (the date the Law takes effect), an employee may refuse to work on their weekly day of rest for any reason, and not only due to a prohibition under the precepts of their religion. The option to refuse to work on the day of rest will not apply to work relating to public security or health, or work connected with the maintenance and provision of essential services, similarly to the refusal option for an employee who observes religious precepts. This right of refusal will not apply to workplaces granted approval by a ministerial committee composed of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Labor, Welfare and Social Services, and the Minister of Religious Services.
