Official summary of the law (Knesset)

Free education is provided to a child hospitalized in a hospital - within an educational framework at the hospital, and to a child suffering from a continuing illness - at home. A "continuing illness" is defined in the Law as "an illness or health impairment requiring treatment in a hospital or staying at home by doctor's instruction, for a period exceeding four weeks; for the purposes of this definition, several periods of treatment or staying at home resulting from the same illness or the same health impairment shall be regarded as one period even if there is a gap between the periods, provided that any such gap does not exceed four weeks." Under the previous version of the Law, before it was amended by this Law, eligibility for free education for a sick child staying at home applied only above the age of five. Due to this restriction, and despite the fact that compulsory education applies to all children from age three and above, sick children aged three to five years were not entitled to free education at home under the Law. The amendment to the Law provides that eligibility for free education for sick children at home shall apply to all sick children subject to compulsory education, including children aged three and four.
